BLADES--CUTRER BLOODLINE
This is a combination of the Blades and Cutrer background which
merged with the marriage of Eli Eddie Blades and Annie Clotee
Cutrer. The full Blades line is presented first, then the Cutrer
line ending with the family merger and below.
=================================================================
BLADES LINE
The record on the Blades bloodline is sketchy prior to 1850. There are
stories that a Benjamin Blades came from England and married an indian
princess named Annie Bee. However, I could not verify this story. I
did verify that a Joseph and Mary Blades were in Louisiana prior to 1850
and their children fit, to a T, with factual data that we can verify.
Thus, the data presented is this line of Joseph and Mary Blades
JOSEPH BLADES (ggg g-f) MARY BARROW

Letitia Susan Blades
1830 Census for Ascension Parish, La p 28 shows:
Joseph Blades
males age 5-10 2
age 30-40 1
females age 30-40 1

I took a ride to the Ascension Parish Courthouse and Library to
see if I could find out any data that would help to tie him in or to
exclude him from the current line of Blades. I did not find anything
of any real consequence but a few little tidbits.
According to the data, summarized below, Joseph Blades was married to
Mary Barrow. Although he was listed in the 1830 census above, on June
4, 1831, his wife appeared in a real estate transaction as his widow.
Thus, Joseph Blades must have died in 1830 or 1831.
They lived on the East side of the Miss river near what is now
Gonzales. Actually, the community where they lived was then called New
River and the name was later changed to Belle Helene near the location of
the plantation home by that name just west of Gonzales.
On January 18, 1825, Joseph Blades sold a slave girl age 13 and named
"Cati" and a slave boy age 10 to Benjamin Barrow for $600.
Since the above sale in 1831 told us that Mary's maiden name was Barrow
and there was an 1825 sale to Benjamin Barrow of 2 slaves, it is
conceivable that Benjamin Barrow was either the father, brother or other
close relative of Mary. It would then make sense that one of the sons
of Joseph and Mary Blades would be named Benjamin Blades. Since we are
aware of a Benjamin Blades and also of a Joseph Abner Blades--which
could be named after his father, and since the above census data fits so
nicely to the ages of the known Benjamin, Abner and Letitia Susan
Blades, the hints are getting stronger that this Joesph Blades in the
1830 census records in Ascension Parish may have been the BIG PAPA of
this Blades family.
This is just speculation on my part but it seems that a lot of the above
information fits together and makes sense. If this is correct, where
does the indian Princess Anna fit in? If the Blades were in S
Louisiana, might they have come to the US through the Port of New
Orleans? Anyone have any boat lists showing names of passengers prior
to 1825?

Although Benjamin's wife's name is unknown at this time, it appears
she must have died either between 1864 and 1870 if Letita was her last
child or in 1869-1870 if Francis W was her last child. It appears that
he then married Jane Ard. There is a record in the Tangipahoa marriage
records of a Benjamin Blades marrying Jane Ard on 8-27-1873.
There is also a record of a Napoleon Blades marrying Alice Thompson in
1880. There are 3 female Thompson listed in this page from Tangi Parish.

The death of Titia Blades was reported in the McComb City Enterprise on
19 Jul 1906 by stating:
Titia blades, 17, died Monday in New Orleans. Daughter of
Mr and Mrs Eli Blades who live at Spring Creek. She had
swallowed a pin as a child and it gave her trouble all her
life. It casued an abcess, complicated with appendicitis.

CUTRER LINE

The very next listing on the page was probably another son listed as:
David Cutrer 30 M W Farmer 300 400

Apparently, the wife of the above Isaac must have died between 1868 and
1870 and left a daughter of only 2.
